Conference – Witness: Word and Deed

The gospel is good news for all, and working in the legal community has its own challenges and opportunities for gospel witness. Our friends at City Bible Forum/Life@Work are tackling this very issue at their annual conference, Witness: Word and Deed – witnessing to the love of Jesus at work in a way that’s realistic, holistic, and exciting.

This is a great opportunity to meet others in the profession and talk honestly about the joys and challenges of working as a lawyer. Speakers include Masterchef winner Kate Bracks, and one of Australia’s finest (and funniest) evangelists, Dr Sam Chan.

Date: 28 and 29 October 2015, 6 pm – 9 pm
Location: Metropolitan Hotel, 263 William St. Melbourne VIC 3000
Tickets: $60 for one night, $90 for both nights (includes dinner, drinks, and dessert)

Registrations close 23 October 2015.

Opportunity for Christian Lawyers – The Christian Research Association

The Christian Research Association is seeking a Christian lawyer willing to serve on a research ethics committee, on a voluntary basis. The Association is the leading Christian research body in Australia, and also helps approve research projects for Harvest and Eastern (Tabor) colleges.

The committee meets approximately four times per year and is seeking a lawyer to consider its research from a proper legal perspective. The committee chairperson is a leading barrister.

If you are a Victorian Christian Legal Society member and would like to express your interest in the role, please direct your enquiry to vicepresident@clsvictoria.org .

Meet the Profession Dinner 2015 Wrap-up and Young CLS Lawyers Events

A belated website wrap-up for the Meet the Profession Dinner 2015…

Thanks to all who attended! We had 62 students and professionals present on the night, and were thrilled to have The University of Melbourne, Monash University, Deakin, La Trobe and the Australian Catholic University all represented in the student turnout!

A shot of the attendees at the dinner.

We were blessed to hear from Ms Anne Winckel and Mr Con Nottas and it was wonderful to connect with students and professionals, some who had been regular supporters of the Christian Legal Society and some who had never attended an event before!

Meet the Profession Dinner speakers, Anne Winckel and Con Nottas

We would like to extend our special thanks to those of our supporters who gave financial support to the Society at our Annual Dinner 2015. The financial support that we receive from professionals allows us to offer subsidised tickets to students, enabling them to get connected to the community and further their professional development. Every year we also offer a number of Society-sponsored tickets to students experiencing financial hardship.

More of our happy diners.

Young lawyers and law grads: looking for more ways to get connected?

The Society would also like to announce that it has started up its Young CLS Lawyers dinners again. These dinners are an informal gathering of junior lawyers, law graduates and law students in a CBD restaurant where you can meet Christ followers who endeavour to live out their faith authentically in the legal industry. It’s an opportunity to network, share war stories and encourage one another on the journey.
